DCJ shares Uganda's Approach and People-Centered Justice Perspectives
The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera at the 3rd Annual Alternative Justice Systems Conference at Karabak University-Nakuru, Kenya

The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, is leading a seven-member delegation from the Judiciary and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) at the 3rd Annual Alternative Justice Systems Conference at Karabak University-Nakuru, Kenya.

The Deputy Chief Justice, who is representing the Chief Justice at the Conference, presented a paper titled, "Uganda's Approach and People-Centered Justice Perspectives."

Hon. Justice Buteera noted that that the Ugandan Judiciary is "re-engineering the Alternative Justice System to adequately cater for the justice needs of our people."

He said this was being done through Appellate Mediation, Plea Bargaining, Small Claims Procedure, promoting arbitration commercial disputes in all courts. 

Adding that Article126 of the Constitution, that provides for Judicial power, is the basis for promoting People-Centered Justice in Uganda.

The theme of the ongoing Conference: "Accelerating a People Centered Justice in Kenya; Engaging, Expanding and Retooling Alternative Justice System".

In attendance; Prof Andrew Khaukha, Judiciary Technical Advisor, HW Dr Alex Mushabe Karocho the, Private Legal Secretary to the DCJ, Senior Counsel Francis Gimara, Ms BarbraKilei, Country Manager IDLO, Mr Samson Asiimwe and Mr Gad Benda.
